Andy Karl Take Over as Fiyero on Broadway’s Wicked

On February 2, 2010, Andy Karl will be taking over as Fiyero in the “Wicked” production on Broadway.

Karl will be assuming the Fiyero role from Kevin Kern. Kern’s last performance will be on January 31, 2010.

Karl played the original Joe in Broadway’s “9 to 5” production and Luke in “Altar Boyz,” a musical off-Broadway. Karl has also appeared in two films: “New York, I Love You” and “On The One.”

“Wicked” is currently featuring Katie Rose Clark playing Glinda, Dee Roscioli in the role of Elphaba, Rondi Reed as Madame Morrible, P.J. Benjamin playing The Wizard, Jenny Fellner in the role of Nessarose, Kevern Kern playing Fiyero, Alex Brightman in the role of Boq, and Timothy Britten Parker playing Doctor Dillamond.

“Wicked,” the Broadway musical opened on October 30, 2003 at Gershwin Theatre, following an October 8, 2003 preview. Tickets are currently being sold through November 21, 2010.

Well before Dorothy ever comes for her visit, two girls meet in Oz. One of the girls has emerald green skin and is fiery, misunderstood and smart. The other girl is very popular, ambitious and beautiful. Wicked narrates the two girls’ story and their remarkable journey of how the two very unlikely friends end up becoming Glinda the Good Witch and Wicked Witch of the West.

Wicked’s lyrics and music are from Stephen Schwartz, Winnie Holman wrote the play’s book based on Gregory Maguire’s novel.

Joe Mantello is the director, James Lynn Abbott the choreographer, Eugene Lee does the set design, Susan Hilferty the costumes, Kenneth Posner the lighting and Tony Meola does the sound.
