Wicked Author Gregory Maguire Pens a Play

Gregory Maguire, author of the critically acclaimed novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” which was turned into an award winning and top grossing Broadway musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, has signed on to write a play to appear in “Grimm”, which features a series of interrelated, Brothers Grimm-inspired plays written by different playwrights in Boston.

“Wicked”, one of the best, if not the greatest, musicals ever showcased in Broadway and all over the world is being planned to be turned into a musical film by two of the musical’s creative heads, lyricist Stephen Schwartz, script writer Winnie Holzman, and producer Marc Platt. According to Deadline.com, Universal Pictures is also reported to be onboard for the silver screen version of the highly successful musical which tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West long before Dorothy made her journey into the colorful Land of Oz.

Jackie Burns Signs on as Elphaba on Wicked Tour

Jackie Burns of “Rock of Ages” fame has been cast as the newest addition to the North American tour of the critically acclaimed musical “Wicked”, which is based on the novel, penned by Winnie Holzman and has music and lyrics written by Stephen Schwartz. “Wicked” is a story set in the Land of Oz before Dorothy from the “Wizard of Oz” came in the picture. It backtracks the story of the Wicked Witch of the West whom Dorothy defeated in the classic tale. Burns will be portraying the emerald skinned Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba, opposite Chandra Lee Schwartz who will be playing Glinda the good witch, when the production lands in Houston as part of the tour.
