On October 30, 2009 Wicked, the Broadway musical, celebrated its sixth anniversary. The show first opened on October 30, 2003 at Gershwin Theatre, after previews that started on October 8. Wicked is booked currently through August 29, 2010.

Wicked, the Broadway musical, set a new box office record for one week sales at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines. It easily broke the previous record set in 2006 by The Lion King. Wicked also did a much better job of getting theatergoers into the local restaurants and keeping them there.

Wicked was last in Dallas, Texas playing Music Hall at Fair Park from May 26 – June 27. Tickets went onsale to the general public through Ticketmaster on Monday, March 22 at 10am CDT.

Normally, Wichita would not be considered a big enough market for hosting a full tour for a big Broadway production like Wicked. However Marc Platt, Los Angeles-based producer who has considered Wichita to be his second hometown after marrying his wife Julie Beren there thirty years ago, has plenty of confidence that the local theater crowd is enthusiastic and sophisticated enough to ensure that the three week visit to Century II will be successful.
