Adam Lambert in Wicked

Although Adam Lambert is best known for American Idol, previously he was involved with Wicked as well as a musical version of The Ten Commandments. What a lot of people don’t know is that the 27 year old, who was one of the American Idol finalists, had a professional background in musical theater long before singing in front of Paula, Simon, and the rest of the American Idol judges.

Patty Duke Joins Wicked San Francisco Cast as Madame Morrible

Producers for Wicked, the smash hit musical, today announced that starting on March 24 Patty Duke, Academy Award winning actress, will be playing Madame Morrible. The current Madame Morrible, Carol Kane had been scheduled from the beginning for only a limited engagement for the first eight weeks when Wicked returned to its home of San Francisco. Kane will be giving her last performance on March 22 in San Francisco at Orpheum Theatre.

Idina Menzel, Tony Award-winning actress, songwriter and singer and best known for her original roles as Elphaba, Wicked Witch of the West, in Wicked and as Maureen in Rent, was born May 30, 1971 as Idina Kim Mentzel. She was born on Long Island, New York into a Jewish family. Stuart Mentzel, her father, was a pajama salesman and Helene, her mother, a therapist.

The musical Wicked is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel and focuses on the story of the two witches of Oz, Elphaba and Glinda. They meet as young girls at the school Shiz, where they are aspiring sorcerers. Wicked details their story and later emergence as The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda The Good Witch. Out of the 38 characters from the novel, the musical focuses on eight key characters as well as the ensemble and a few others.
